Rationale
There is actually no way to preview pdf's in nautilus, of cause you see the first page but there is no way to get a sneak preview of the pdf like audio files. You can not hover the mouse over a pdf icon and browse a few sites to get an idea of the pdf.

An shining example could be the preview in the Finder of MacOS X.

To solve the problem you can use a canvas, which opening by hover the mouse over the pdf icon. The Canvas is a Nautilus Plugin and use the pdf decode lib of GNOME. That is one way to solve the problem.
